I am the mother of three incredible loving children, two daughters Siobhan and Kelsey and a son, Jason. My son had Neurofibromatosis type II ( NF2 ). Malignant and benign brain tumours. Spinal tumours. Seizures. This is Jason’s story. An inspiring story of his incredible bravery, strength, determination and passion for life.

I know Jason’s story of his life with NF2 will help and inspire and I hope that my story can help, even if just one mother. A supportive friend said the following to me that helped encouraged me to write Jason’s story:

” Such amazing news to hear Jason has returned to College. He is unbelievable. I sure hope you are keeping some kind of journal or notes because the story of his life (and yours) is inspirational. You are living it and probably are too busy and too close to it to see how it looks to others. Whenever I hear about his courage I always see things in a different light.”

” I have always felt that you and Jason have so much to offer people. I tell you knowing about him is inspirational and humbling. There is something so amazing about your story-your strength and sense of humor and just your life and his in general. It isn’t the conventional one to be sure but so powerful from someone else looking in.”

A mother’s story : the wrath of NF2 upon my child, surgeries, radiation, taking care of him, trying to maintain normality for my daughters, trying to maintain a loving happy home. Marriage crumbling. Working, operating a horse boarding business. Keeping a brave face. The unimaginable happens. Everything stopped. My precious Jason died 3 years ago. ” I ” was no longer. I didn’t know any other way of living. I didn’t know how to be. My whole world disappeared. Dissociation. Amputated. When you think there is no possible way you can take another day, another minute, another second, my story maybe shows that you can; a breath at a time. Always there for me when I am quiet enough to notice it. Discovering and receiving a lifeline from meditative yoga.  No longer able to cope with being at home I entered the world of housesitting. Another lifeline. This experience led me to incredible people and places of healing.

While house/pet sitting last summer at a lending lakeside home everything came together, to pick up the pen and start sharing Jason’s story, my story,  and all the stories within.
